Interview with Fashion Designer Esther Nash

Last month’s “Recessionista Fashionista” article had many of you buzzing and emailing me requesting more budget friendly fashion tips.

By Maria A. Pardalis

Although I adore haute couture and know how to shop while remaining recession friendly, I am not an expert. That is why I decided to feature Esther Nash, an artsy fashion designer who is signed with Ikon Model Management’s Celebrity Division and has her very own “Recession Collection” clothing line. Esther and her designs have been featured in over 300 publications nationally and internationally. She designs jewelry, sportswear, rock star glam wear, resort wear, swim wear, hats and more.

I was intrigued to learn that she is Greek-American and not only designs clothing but also struts down the catwalk in them. Esther’s designs are very futuristic, heavily textured and colorful. I had the opportunity to interview Esther to discuss her career and frugal fashion tips.

Esther’s Top 5 Frugal Fashion Tips

1. Raid your mother’s and grandmother’s closet!
What is family for if they can’t help you accessorize? You can never go wrong with vintage clothes. Just try to select classic pieces that you are able to work into your wardrobe.

2. Swap clothes with your friends.
It is important when you are making friends to select girls that are about your size.

3. Always wear jewelry
Despite tough times, it is important to wear a bracelet, necklace, watch and earrings. It is what separates a plain Jane and a diva. It is also conversation starter. I promise.

4. Shop in your closet!
Create new outfits by layering, mixing and matching your current wardrobe. This can easily be done by wearing a turtleneck and blazer over a dress for an entirely new look. Tights can instantly transform an outfit; a shirt is now a new dress!

5. Only buy the essentials.
A few good items that every young lady needs in her closet are: a cocktail dress, dressy shorts, skirt, blazer, clutch bag, platform wedge heels, pumps, and dressy flats.

Fashion Meet and Greets by Celebrity Designer, Model, Actress & Socialite Esther Nash

Atlantic City is not just a gambler’s paradise but it is becoming a fashion mecca attracting socialites (such as moi), actresses, designers, famous deejays, and other members of the jet set. Beautiful boutiques, the Atlantic Shore line, fine dining and fantastic nightlife (DUSK, at Caesars).

So when DUSK VIP Director Brian Taylor invited me for a Meet and Greet at Luis Vuitton- Pier Shops, Caesars, Atlantic City, it was an invitation I could not decline. Plus the Quo Spa at Caesars is always a necessary part of my itinerary.

After all AC is just a helicopter ride away or for those who have aversions to flying, private car, express train or casino bus will take you there in style.

At Louis Vuitton, after photo opps on the red carpet with fans, I was escorted in, offered champagne and given a private tour of the new unisex collection, “Vintage”. The silver and black makes a very sexy combo. Now that I have brought into the loop with this fashion insider information, you will not be left behind!

The fashion after-party continued at DUSK, Caesars Atlantic City, (opened by the late nightlife visionary Deejay AM). Behind the velvet ropes, excitement and beauty awaited. It was a dream come true! The music was spinning like the laser lights above; I danced the night away from Dusk to Dawn.

The music was spinning like the laser lights above; I danced the night away from Dusk to Dawn. Eleganza Boutique fashion Show in partnership with the Italian Trade Commission sponsored a fashion show at the Caesars Pier Shops presenting models, who moved well, in designs by Roberto Cavalli, Versace (my sister Shelly’s favorite), D & G, Etro and Giuseppe Zanotti, and other fine european designers. Very tailored luxurious looks. I think Eleganaza Boutique should carry some Esther Nash designs to complete their inventory. From my front row seat I enjoyed the view and the atmosphere created by the hand-blown black glass chandeliers that hung above the catwalk and by the international chatter of the European royalty on my left and right.

SU CASA, after enjoying the sights and smells of AC, I returned to NYC, for an intimate meet and greet with my fans and to celebrate the Thanksgiving Eve birthday of ZIVI of the Z group. Su Casa’s manager Michael provided us with a private table and Spanish red wine. We danced with the other beautiful people till 3Am to great beats from the Deejay. The natural exposed brick walls and the warm wood floors made it cozy and exclusive.

Shelly Nash, my in house counsel, publicist, and model, was decked out in sequins day and night. Sequins is exactly what every “it” girl must have to Sparkle and Shine and be divine!
